Overflow: Jan Howden opened the doors of Overflow about 20 years ago, and has always lived in the district. As a child, her grandmother told her about the pioneer days, and family stories which captured her imagination. From there, she took an interest in treasures of the past.
Jan’s mother in law had an abundance of clothing, so Jan started to collect lace and
buttons to make repairs, until she had thousands of buttons, and on top of that, collected postcards and second hand goods.
Her Dad loved machinery and horse power, and subsequently, Jan also became
knowledgeable about harness, machinery parts that related to everyday life, so outside in the yard, you will find the ‘man’s section’. Although Jan does not put price tags on any of her stock, she can name her price instantly, and being open erratic hours is part of Overflow’s charm.
Jan along with her daughter Leanne welcome visitors from all over the world. It is the type of shop where people stop and talk to each other while they enjoy looking at the vast array of fascinating merchandise on offer.
